Anglo Saxon Gold

Mike Austin, was channel 4’s archaeologist on Time Team has sadly died at age 66 and after 18 year on time team! He was know for his jaunty knitwear and his crazy, unruly white hair. He’s worked in archaeology for
over 40 years and has a particular passion for anything medieval and monastic.

During time team there were 230 episodes in 20 years! Now that’s a lot of discovery’s to be made right? But why am I talking about the time team what has that got to do with Gold and Silver? Well Mike Austin has a passion for Anglo Saxon gold jewellery and he spread that passion through the whole of the time team! Maybe its was his passion that helped them to discover what they did?

Firstly a bit of background on Anglo Saxons

The Anglo Saxons were a population in Britain who partly descended from a Germanic Tribe, who migrated from continental Europe. The Anglo Saxons ruled Britain for around 600 years. The first ever recorded Anglo Saxon to arrive and make a settlement was in AD449. A monk called Bede wrote about the arrival of the Saxons in AD731.

So there’s a bit of background about the Anglo Saxons! So why am I talking about them? Well… in November 2009 a 55 year old man, somewhere in Staffordshire unearthed some Anglo Saxon gold and got it valued! How much did he get it valued from?

 £3.285 million

The gold had an inscription in Latin saying: “Rise up O lord, and may thy enemies be dispersed and who hate thee be driven from thy face.”

Now that’s quite cool is it not? But you can imagine a strong minded archaeologist who loves Anglo Saxon thought well that’s and him and his partner Tony Robinson went out on the hunt for some Anglo Saxon gold! So 2 years later on the 13th  February 2011 they went looking for some gold jewellery

Where do you ask? The archaeologists went to Leicestershire to investigate life and death in Anglo Saxon Britain. The Team are intrigued by metal detecting finds and pottery scattered across the fields, which suggest they’re on the site of a high-status Anglo Saxon burial ground. This brings hope as you can imagine? In history we learn that many people century’s ago people were buried will there riches.

By the end of the first day there’s no sign of a cemetery, in spite of the evidence. But all that changes the next morning with a flurry of activity revealing burials, cremations and a glimpse of gold. Which you can imagine was very exciting for the archaeologists! So the day was made up of frantic digging which revealed every type of Anglo Saxon burial – and perhaps the finest piece of jewellery ever discovered on Time Team.

So gold has always been a treasure so so long! In Anglo Saxon period gold was still a treasure but I wasn’t used as a currency/money and didn’t particularly signify wealth. Gold was used in a lot of jewellery. The time team found a fore-arm broach in an female Anglo Saxon burial which was made from gold and is very rare to find as it was only the fourth one found in Britain. They also discovered that the burial was a double grave of a man and woman. They found a gold top spear and a shield that lined with gold which would be worth a lot of money considering it was only lined !

The most recent and largest finding of Anglo Saxon gold was in the Staffordshire hoard. The folded cross is one of the few non-warfare related items found in the Staffordshire Hoard. This weighed 140.21g and was made purely from gold!

This blog was in remembrance of Mike Austin who sadly passed last week. R.I.P

Why is silver a good investment?

Hey guys! Sorry its been a while but don’t worry I will always bounce back! Hope your all well and having a great day! Instead of me babbling on lets get started! So why is silver a good investment? Well if you read on I will tell you why it is and why you shouldn’t miss out on this opportunity and where you can get silver from to start your great new investment!

So lets get started…Silver could be a fantastic and profitable opportunity for anyone who is willing to take 5 minutes out of there free time to read this blog and get going! You could start with £10 which is okay i guess for a bit of pocket cash but trust me you could work your way up to £1000’s ! (I’m saying pounds because I’m in England but if your in America, India, where ever same applies so $1500 or something around those lines.)

Right you could literally do all this free! So why pay industry prices and commission trust me you don’t need to its so simple!

The difference…

Right I had some confusion with some readers the other day, Silver is weighed in ounce yes, but not the ounce we use (28.35g) it’s actually in Troy Ounces which is 31.1g! I hope that has cleared everything up for you all sorry for the confusion.

The Prices

Well the silver market is always up and down, but its sold for approximately £0.70p per ounce, so about £21.80 per troy ounce. Silver has slid in 2013 and white metal is down 9% but silver is up +0.82%! Yes it all very confusing I know ! In April of 2011 silver hit a high record of $49.79 per ounce sounds good if your investing right? Well I’m afraid to tell you it then dropped to $29.36 per ounce on February 19th 2013! So why should I invest in silver you have just said it dropped the beginning of this year!?

Well, In 2007 investors panicked about the financial crisis but who didn’t? Gold soared 30% whilst silver went up but 4% now that’s not great if you were investing in 2007! Silver is now this year the better bet than Gold, we are slowly going to recover from the triple dip recession, so inflation!! does anyone understand what I’m trying to get at? Well the silver market is up and down a lot but no matter what its better than before, so the more silver you invest in silver now and it inflates and the prices rocket like they have done… well you have brought silver at a cheaper price, and selling it at a higher price which is where your profit comes in!

In January, U.S mint sold out of Silver American Eagle , after selling 60.1 million ounces! The most since January 2012.

We never see Silver on the media do we? Can you name a silver advert on the TV or radio? I sure can’t! The media should focus on silver! I wonder why they don’t? There is a continuous increase in the industries demand for Silver and its on the rise!

To start your new, profitable investment in silver I suggest you visit http://www.isncoins.com/?site=colinphelps ! You can get information on the investment and even start your investment there and buy your first coin!

Like Frank Sinatra said: ” The best is yet to come”

Have a good evening! Speak soon!

Where did this all start? and where can i get some silver coins?

Hello everyone! Hope your all well, and hope you have all been enjoying my blog so far. Here i am going on about silver coins but wait a minute where did this come from? well if you want to know read on!

Silver coins are one of the oldest mass produced forms of coinage ever known. Silver was brought around as coinage in the Greek times. Drachma (Greek money) was one of the most popular trade coins. Silver coins go way back its crazy… The ancient Persians even used them and come on! 1. There is the word ancient which tells us there old any way and 2. 612-330 BC! Yeah you heard me right BC so silver coins have been around a long time!

Okay Gold has for many years before us has had a high class or status if you will than silver am i right? From the 12th century to the 17th century one ounce of Gold was worth approximately 12 ounce’s of Silver now that’s crazy when you think of the Gold and Silver market today.

Right so when did the British Silver coin come about? King George III was crowned King on 22 September 1760 at the age of 22. During his reign:

He lost Britain’s Americans Colonies
Australia was colonised
His reign was was during the time of some of the greatest literature names in history!
It was also the same time as the great Captains Nelson and Wellington
He also saw the French Revolution

But why do we care … were talking about Silver coins aren’t we? Well yes Silver coins were brought in by King George III in 1979. Now that’s where we got Silver coins from so I think that we all owe King George a favour for bringing in the Silver coin/ Penny because it’s now one of the leading investments today!

But where can i buy silver Coins ? I was asked this question yesterday where can i get some silver coins to start my great investment? Well if you really want to buy some silver coins and start and investment that could change your life go to http://isncoins.com/ ! This could really help you! This could be your new investment? But don’t just take my word for it check it out your self!
Thanks for reading guys!

Where is all the silver going?

Hello, hope your all well! Its not so cold today… Still grey and dull though don’t you think? Anyway shall we get on? And find out where all the silver is disappearing to, because it doesn’t just magically turn into dust does it ?

Silver mining is the recourse extraction of silver by mining. That’s all good and well but how much mining can you do before its all gone? Silver is a precious metal like gold. Its a precious metal because it won’t last forever like the fossil fuels am I right?  In 2010 Mexico was the worlds largest silver producer, according to the silver institute Mexico produced 128.6 million troy ounce’s (3,999 metric tons) in 2010 which is to my knowledge is 17% of the worlds annual production! If that’s only 17% think of how much 100% is!

So Mexico was making a decent amount of money and when it come to the ears of other countries, well they realised what a great investment it could be, so I’m guessing that research was done and they found that silver was the next up and coming long term investment!

Argentina, Russia and Nigeria have decided that they will buy out all the silver mines! But why the hell should you care? why does this affect you? well here is a fact for you …

SILVER IS USED IN NEARLY ALL ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES!

Do you have a iPhone? iPad? Microwave? TV? Computer? see where im going with this? Yes? Well i should imagine most of you do, if not all of you?

Well if Nigeria, Russia and Argentina have all the silver then they have captured the source and then can determine all the prices right? Well lets see Apple sold 35 million Iphones in 2012. Apple have predicted to sell 75 million Iphones in 2014! no that a fair bit of silver. That’s just Iphones not everything else like Computers, microwaves ect..

So the prices of these electrical appliances will increase, so that’s more money out of our pockets for essentials. Lets be honest phones are essential to us now we use them for everything! We need a phone!

I will let you all think about it! i would say look it up but its on the down low at the moment! In my next blog i will talk about how this all first come around and how we got to know the Silver and gold coins and the bullion and what has change in so many years.

Thanks for reading! have a great afternoon!

So why not gold?

HELLO! hope everyone is well! shame about this weather ay?! Can’t believe how our weather just has these temperamental mood swings with us! These mood swings are starting to give me wip lash! I can’t keep up with it all but who can? Our weather just changes all the time just like the prices of gold and silver. Shall we get into it then ?

Well you see silver is doing pretty well at the moment if i do say so my self. Take a look in the next jewellery store you pass, just look in the window and see what is on display, because i could almost 100% guarantee that there would be more silver products than gold!

On May 30th I decided to do some research on the silver market and come to a website, http://www.silvermarketnewsonline.com. This was really helpful to me! It has daily updates on the gold a silver markets so your always really up to date.

The silver and gold market (more the gold than the silver) are fluctuating like crazy! The gold/ silver ratio has decrease dramatically to 61:987! This is some crazy number flying around all over the place don’t you think?

Whilst doing my research i also come across another website which was quite handy, http://www.monex.com/why/silver_market.html. Investing in silver could offer investors one of the single BEST long term investments today! Surely this is something you would want to check out ! i know i wanted to and still want to know more. This is exciting news for me and for everyone it think!

But i still haven’t answered the question have I? So why silver and not gold well… Silver has outperformed gold and in January 2009- December 2012 silver increased in prices by 160% whilst gold only increased that of 90%.

Although Silver has really pushed the boundaries in 1970 silver exceeded prices of $50 per ounce recently (30,5,2013) the closing price was just $22.78c per ounce.

The down fall to silver being the next biggest market in the world is that the worldwide demand for silver is increasing whilst the supplies of silver are decreasing rapidly!

In my next blog i will talk about why silver is decreasing so rapidly and where it is all going!

have a great afternoon ! BYE FOLKS.

Lets talk coins! Shall we…?

Good evening everyone! Hope everyone is well? Sorry for the delay in my blog… Anyway In my introduction I said how I would talk about the economy, gold and silver and more. Well lets talk about the English coins shall we?

We all want value for our money right? Of course we do, we all like a good offer, so we want money for our coinage surely? Well we won’t sadly to say… Our coins our are just metal they aren’t worth anything. If I was to give you £10 or a silver coin weighing 1 ounce what would you choose? We the sensible option would be the silver coin, why? You ask well the silver coin is just pure solid silver, which you would think would be obvious by the look but what would you think if you looked at a British pound coin? It’s not what it looks like so you ask well why would the silver coin give me more money?

If you walked in the bank with £10 you would get the same right? Well if you went in the bank with 1 silver coin weighing an ounce you could get a minimum of £20.77 so that’s double your money!

Tomorrow I will carry on to tell about why I mentioned silver coins and not gold. Hope you enjoyed!

Lets get started…
